Heart treadmills are mainly used by the physicians in order to determine if their patients hearts are healthy or not or whether they would develop any heart or cardiovascular diseases in the future, even though it is not considered as a very precise problem indicator of the cardiac problems according to certain studies.
Since, the insurance companies do not reimburse the patients for the treadmill usage charges unless and until cardiac symptoms are found out, many doctors do not use them for testing the heart of those who do not have any heart problem symptoms. But, physicians might use the treadmill for finding out how the heart of the patient reacts to exercises. While such tests are conducted on the patients, they are hooked to electrodes and in turn are connected to the electrocardiogram and one monitor which provide a visual image and even a print outs of the heart reaction of the patients to the exercise.
Before undergoing the heart treadmill tests or stress test, patients are advised not to consume beverages or food at least for four hours before testing. During testing, the patients are connected with the blood pressure cuff and electrodes. Even though it is not the only method to conduct stress tests using treadmill, it is however very common. Exercise bikes might also be used in stead of the treadmills sometimes. While conducting the tests, the inclination and speed might be increased slowly at two or three minutes intervals in order to monitor the blood pressure changes in them.
